SHS’s Wi-Fi Project

Sutton Housing Society is very excited about its Wi-Fi project to Wi-Fi enable all of its housing sites designated for older people. This will open up a whole new world of opportunities to tenants that have previously been digitally excluded.

SHS took the decision to ensure its schemes for Older People were Wi-Fi enabled to maximise opportunities for older people to have access to the internet – and at no cost to its existing tenants*.

With the buildings being Wi-Fi enabled, tenants can access the internet and make savings on everyday purchases, shop online, speak to friends and family for free using the various Apps, apply for welfare benefits and keep up to date with the latest information about their interests and hobbies.

SHS staff are visiting the housing schemes, offering 1 – 2 – 1 support, “pop up” internet café sessions and with its partners – AgeUK Sutton and WEA – we have organised digital classes for tenants wanting to learn to use the internet and for those wanting to find out more.

*This applies to tenants living at the individual schemes at the time the SHS Wi-Fi connection is made. New tenants have a small weekly charge for the service as part of their service charge.
