Independent advice and support

If you need help about any housing problems, including paying your rent, please visit the housing advice page on the Shelter website. Shelter is an independent charitable organisation that offers independent advice and support. If you are experiencing difficulties paying your rent, please also speak with your Housing Officer.

When to pay your rent

Your tenancy agreement or annual rent notification tells you how much rent you should pay. As part of your tenancy agreement, you must pay your rent in advance. If you are unsure how much you should pay, contact us or let us know through the SHS Resident’s App.

Ways to pay your rent

Direct Debit

This is the easiest and safest way to pay. Banks also offer a ‘Direct Debit guarantee’ for you. To arrange to pay your rent by Direct Debit, contact your Housing Officer who will set this up for you.

Allpay

There are several ways to pay your rent via your Allpay card:

  • Online through the Allpay website.
  • Over the phone: 0330 041 6497
  • Over the counter at any outlet where you see the Allpay or PayPoint sign.

What if I lose my Allpay card?

The card has no monetary value but you must report the loss to us as soon as possible. In most cases a replacement card will be with you within seven days.

How often will I receive a rent statement?

Rent statements are sent in January, April, July and October each year. Contact us if you require a rent statement at any other time. Alternatively, you can check your rent payments and balances using the SHS Resident’s App.

Help and support for SHS residents with money worries

If you are having trouble paying your rent or other bills, please don’t ignore the situation. Free, friendly and professional help and support is available via Christians Against Poverty (CAP).

CAP offers three key services, all free of charge:

The CAP Debt Centre can help if you need support with debts, speaking with creditors, making arrangements to repay debt etc. A ‘drop-in’ service is available every Tuesday at their office between 12:30PM and 2:00PM, with light refreshments, free of charge. The office is located above the TazZa Coffee Shop, High Street, Sutton.

If you are out of work and need a bit of support finding new employment, attending a CAP Job Club may help. They offer an eight week course which covers many subjects to help get you ‘work ready’. Topics such as building confidence, CV writing, interview skills, volunteering are all covered on the course.

CAP Life Skills coaches run money management courses which are useful to everyone who finds that their income is changing and they need a little help and support. Take a look at what courses are available in your area by visiting the CAP website.
